Freshfiber Iphone cases launched at 270+ Apple stores

    FOC FOR 22Nov2011

Freshfiber was founded as a collaboration between Freedom Of Creation and two entrepeneurs, Chris Dijkhof and Jurjen Rolf in 2009. Since then we have collaborated in developing and commercializing countless 3D printed products for the consumer electronics market. At first mainly focusing on smart phones from Apple, Samsung and Blackberry. Due to the success of the cases in several high-end retail stores worldwide, Apple has now decided to launch the products at all Apple retail stores across USA and Canada. This marks a great milestone for us on pushing 3D printed designs into the mainstream retail.

The first covers, which are now available at Apple retail stores, will be gray Doublemesh and Weave, Designed by Janne Kyttanen

Josien Pieters also wins second Talents competition

    FOC Talents 15Jul2010

Apparently Josien Pieters is in a winning mood since the jury consisting of Frank Tjepkema, Jurjen Rolf and Janne Kyttanen has selected her ‘Freshfibers’ Blackberry case design as best out of 14 entries. The entries are assessed anonymous by the jury and again her design came out as winner, after she also won the first Talents competition with her wedding ring design ‘Reality Check‘.

The jury had a fierce discussion on who to select from three entries: ‘Linguini’ by Lionel Dean, ‘B100′ by Peter Hermans and ‘Freshfibers’ by Josien Pieters. The jury praised the forward thinking of Lionel Dean and the intriguing, innovative shape of the Linguini case. B100 was classified as a fun gimmick and a real conversation piece. ‘Freshfibers’ was finally selected as winner, because according to the jury this entry is an original answer to the first design criterion of the assignment that was provided by Freshfiber; make the Blackberry use more fun, or have more impact.

The user starts of with a case consisting of 48 detachable, mono-colored pieces: ‘Freshfibers’. These Freshfibers can be swapped with users that have a different color, in Josien her entry matching the country that the user lives in. The jury thinks the case can become a very social thing, since ‘Freshfibers’ can really stimulate (physical) interaction between global Blackberry users. The anticipated vivid (online) trade of Freshfibers can definitely increase the fun and impact of having a Blackberry and should result in increased social interaction. Also the scarcity of some Freshfibers’ colors can result in real collector’s items. (more…)

Apple acquires exclusivity for FreshFiber iPhone cases

    FOC FOR 5Mar2010

Since a new partner company of FOC, Freshfiber was launched in the fall of 2009, things have gone very fast. This company was set up to specialize in fashionable 3D printed protection designs for electronics and the first products to be developed were Iphone covers. The first line was initially introduced in Dubai during the Gitex show in November2009 and you could not wish for a better launching customer than Apple. Since for a couple weeks now, one of these designs ‘Double Mesh’ is part of the Apple product collection and can be purchased directly from their online store.  Apple has acquired the European exclusivity to  sell the Double Mesh in 3 colors. All other colors can be bought in the FOC online store.

Janne Kyttanen, the designer of the products, comments: “This is of course great news for us to get Apple on board. Most of FOC’s products are premium priced due to the high costprice of larger volume 3D printed objects. Since we now have a small-sized product in our hands and the network from Apple selling them, the production quantities are expected to become very high. This is also great news for the entire 3D printing industry, because finally there is a product on the market which can really bring the technology to the masses.”
