First successes FOC Talents program

FOC Talents  17.Jun.2010

In January 2010 the FOC Talents program was launched with great excitement, but also some uncertainty on how it would evolve. Assessing the first results, we see that we are on the right track and that the potential is huge.

The founder of FOC Talents, Bram de Zwart:

“Creating a distanced network of the worlds’ best 3D designers and centrally commercializing their designs, is something of which we know little examples.  It is only recently that such a new and efficient approach to product development is made possible thanks to the rapid evolvement of 3D software, 3D printing and not to forget the internet. The selection of designers that we have made and who will have to make this adventure successful, has proven to contain real Talents.

These are young people who have fresh ideas and create new form archetypes, helped by their superior Computer Aided Design skills. In the future I want to find more ways in which FOC can further educate the Talents about 3D Printing design rules, since I think the promise of 3D Printing to society is huge, but can only be realized if there are enough designers who know how to fully utilize its potential.”

Some of the popular Talents Q1 design which are now for sale:

Two months ago the first Talent designs (rings) have been launched and so far we see a steady rise in sales and also in interest from the press. Some Talents organize their own promotion, like an exhibition during the Milan designweek (Studio Mango), a book publication (Josien Pieters) and their own photoshoots. READ ON

FOC Collection, Not just stunning beauties…

FOC Collection  16.Jun.2010

The FOC Collection consists of 25 light designs of which most visual attention is drawn to the stunning beauty of the 3D printed shades. However our lights are also made up of many other 3D printed parts. None of these parts are the same and all are specifically designed for that particular lights. FOC’s reluctance to use ‘off- the-shelve’ parts gives each light their unique character and shows our commitment to detail.

Although FOC Collection lights display a very high quality standard, they can never be flawless. In order to come close, FOC has collected year-long customer feedback and redesigned every 3D printed detail. It has resulted into a visual change that is minimal, but quality that is even better than it was. Although seemingly a paradox, our products should be delicate in their design and at the same time be of unbeatable quality.

FOC @ International Design Festival Berlin

FOC general  15.Jun.2010

FOC staff just got back from our exhibition at DMY-Berlin. At DMY we mingled with the upcoming generation of designers and artists. We almost felt old and established…there were little traders, lots of journalists and from artistic point of view it was the best fair we have seen in a while.

The awesome location, airport Tempelhof, left a lasting impression.

Check this video to get an impression of DMY 2010.

Our exhibition stand was shared with Droog, Frederik Roije, Goods, Ibride, all brands distributed by our German agent ‘Now Is Here’.  Check the pictures of this Fair in our Press section.

3D printing industry supports fight against cancer

FOC general  2.Jun.2010

Freedom Of Creation designer Brian Garret has designed a 3D printed clip, a giveaway for the upcoming Alpe d’Huzes cycle event. Alpe d’Huzes is a Dutch initiative in which hundreds of people cycle up the Alpe d’Huez mountain to collect sponsor money to fight cancer.

Each of the more than 3000 participants has to cycle up at least 6 times, which is nearly impossible since the climb up the mountain -being part of the Tour the France- is a very tough track. This annual event, first organized in 2006, brought up a mere 5,7 million Euro last year.
