Freedom Of Creation in the media

FOC general  22.Sep.2010

The media attention around FOC is increasing rapidly. We finally found the time to update our website a year ago and put more attention on communication about our work in the media. Because of this change, during a year period, our website traffic has increased by over 1400%.

Good example is FOC being on the cover of the New York times last week. Eventhough it is only a daily paper, this action quickly crashed our webserver with 40 visitors per second.

Printed media is also in constant increase all around the world. Several local newspapers are talking about 3D printing and our design work, which is bringing our work evermore closer to the normal consumers rather than just being featured in high end design press. It is impossible for us to keep track of all articles, but some stand out such as the interview/cover publication of Janne Kyttanen on the Bright magazine as well as a special feature in the Wired Magazine of headphones designed by Brian Garret.

Jointed Jewels, a 3D printed Jewelry collection byAMT

FOC FOR  31.Aug.2010

Every now and then we collaborate with visionary artists & designers – who share our vision on 3D printing – to realize their designs.

Alissia Melka-Teichroew is one of those artists, her design studio byAMT approached Freedom Of Creation to help her with manufacturing & finishing of the Jointed Jewels line.

Jointed Jewels represents a union of new and old, organic and industrial, functional and decorative. At the heart of the project is the intention to transform complex and separate elements into a new kind of whole. It started as an exploration of ball joints, commonly found in cars and hip replacements. Alissia Melka-Teichroew had the idea of creating a ball joint -normally assembled with separate parts- as one single piece.

We produced the jewelry through use of selective laser sintering, in this way it is possible to literally make a ball inside a ball. Hence, the industrial connecter was transformed into an object of beauty and wonder. A clean and striking jewelry collection was created around this innovative concept. Each piece has been made with the same technique: it seems like an intricately assembled object but is in fact one single piece that was made in one go. READ ON
