FOC supports the binary furniture collection by COHDA

FOC FOR  10.Dec.2010

Freedom Of Creation supported UK based design company Cohda with its innovative Binary Furniture Collection. The binary table is the first result of an interactive project that expands the principles of the 60’s engineering toy ‘Spirograph’ into 3-dimensional objects. FOC 3D printed the first table in the series, designed by Cohda Founder Richard Liddle.

Launched as live event at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in the UK, the public was encouraged to create their own digital furniture by drawing directly into Cohda’s Binary desk via a Wacom tablet. A newly developed programme tracked the speed and pressure of the pen then extruded the spirals into a third dimension determining the surface configuration, structure and leg height.

In addition to an image of individual designs (which the creator could download from www.cohda.com), the programme also stored the unique CAD data files ready for 3D Printing. This gave users the option to either take ownership of the image and 3D product file, or to print a version of their creation through Cohda and FOC. READ ON

Freedom Of Creation exhibits at EUROMOLD 2010

FOC general  23.Nov.2010

2010 marks the 10th anniversary year for Freedom Of Creation. During this year we have organized all kinds of happenings to celebrate this milestone. Most memorable so far has been our recent show during the Helsinki Design Week in September. Normally we don’t exhibit at manufacturing fairs, such as Euromold, but since all our products are produced with 3D printing technologies, this year we decided to celebrate this occasion also with our manufacturing partners.

A very special thanks belongs to all those companies who have helped growing our company from scratch and especially our most loyal suppliers, who are also sponsoring our appearance at Euromold: EOS, Stratasys, FKM-Sintertechnik, HSL,  3T RPD and Additive Manufacturing Research group at Loughborough University. We would also like to thank Demat, who triggered us and invited us to exhibit during Euromold this year.

FOC continues its design collaboration with Ted Noten. Next in line were the Dutch Fashion Awards where Ted Noten is selected to design the awards for the winners. Iris van Herpen was the grand winner of this year’s Dutch Fashion Awards. Not only did she win the Mercedes-Benz Dutch fashion Award, but she was also awarded with the Dutch Fashion Accessory Award and the Dutch Fashion Incubator Award.

The jury chose Iris van Herpen to be the ambassador for the kind of contemporary creative force Dutch Fashion has to offer to the international fashion field. With Bas Kosters as the winner of the International Fashion Incubator Award 2010, a prize stimulating authentic creativity in fashion, the jury clearly made a strong statement this fourth edition of the Dutch fashion Awards.
