Andreia Chaves designs pumps with Freedom Of Creation

FOC FOR   19.Apr.2011

The first series of 3D printed shoe designs by designer Andreia Chaves were launched during this years’ Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (February 10-17) in New York. The series entitled ‘Invisible Shoe’ were shown in New York in a exhibition organized by Mercedes-Benz in collaboration with designer Herve Leger and this was followed in March 2011 by a launch in Asia in association with I.T. Hong Kong as well as the opening of the retailers’ new store in Beijing. For the development of the external 3D structures, Chaves has collaborated with the designers of Dutch based studio Freedom Of Creation.

Described as a study of optical effect applied to shoe design, the ‘Invisible Shoe’ series explores the concept of invisibility though the ‘chameleon effect’ while the shoe’s reflective finished surface creates an obscured optical effect with each step taken. This innovative design greatly exceeds the primary function of the shoe, where “protecting” the foot also means “deleting” or “immersing” it into the environment. READ ON

FOC & Iris collaborate on Heineken promotional campaign

FOC FOR   14.Mar.2011

For the launch of Heineken’s brand new premium STR bottle, creative agency IRIS came to FOC to help design & engineer a truly magical experience. To present the aluminium bottle to Heinekens stakeholders across the globe a suitable packing was needed. Since the newly designed bottle includes UV-sensitive ink the goal of the packaging was to showcase this in a mind-blowing experience.

An all black 3D-printed capsule was designed around the bottle, stuffed with all kind of witty technology to make the capsule interact when opened & closed. This capsule was split into two halves which are held together by a magnetic lock. When opened, UV light is automatically activated, revealing the otherwise invisible UV print.

We got so excited to see all the names of the people who are supporting our project on the actual iPad cases – we decided to share it with our backers and everybody else. In this update we’ll take you through the process of designing, engineering and 3D printing of our products.
